England, the largest country in the United Kingdom, borders Scotland to the north and Wales to the west. It is known to be one of the most interesting tourist destinations in the world, with its remarkable history, many attractions, and well established infrastructure. Wherever one looks there are grand buildings, ancient churches and interesting museums. England has a variety of people, religions and cultures.
Despite being an island, England is easily one of the most accessible countries on earth to get to. With its international airports including the world's busiest, Heathrow Airport and excellent ferry connections, getting to this great country is not a problem. The best time to visit is in the summer months between June and September when the daylight hours are long. Winters tend to be cold and damp, and generally not the prettiest time to visit, however snowfalls can be magical. The northern and western parts of England generally see the worst of the weather, while the south and southeast are warmer and dryer, particularly around London and Brighton areas.
Transport within England is easily navigable and a train ride through the English countryside is a highlight and something every tourist should undertake. England is a compact country in which you are never far from the next town, and therefore the next pub!
England is steeped in history with there being some area's that have hardly changed in two centuries. From colourful cottage flower beds and lovingly tended inner-city allotments to the serenely landscaped estates of grand English houses and botanical gardens, England has something for everyone.
There are many activities and attractions in England. Some of the major sights include the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, Stonehenge, Hadrian's Wall, Oxford’s university colleges, Salisbury Cathedral and the Brighton Royal Pavilion.
Tourists can also enjoy hiking, cycling and other outdoor activities around the country, with easy walk and cycle paths.
England has some great beach resorts like Brighton, Blackpool and Bournemouth, as well as top surfing beaches like Newquay. The nightlife is never dull in this country with its pubs, old inns, trendy cocktail bars, café-bars and nightclubs.
