SOUTHERN YACHTING ACADEMY  offers Introduction to Sailing, Competent Crew and Accredited Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper training courses.  

Enjoy the thrill of beating the wind through the stunning Knysna Lagoon or at sea aboard one of our keel yachts. Learn basic sailing skills. This introductory session is aimed at establishing if you are ready to pursue a Competent Crew, Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper Training Certificates. Come join us and let’s set sail. 

Inspired by the love for yachting, local Maritime history and the modernisation of its representation...Experience start sailing adventures, competent crew courses, accredited day skipper and coastal skipper courses.

Our offices are on Thesen Harbour Town and our sailing vessels depart from the Knysna Yacht Club in front of the Knysna Quays waterfront. We traverse the Knysna Lagoon and sail through the Knysna Heads to Buffalo Bay, Noetzie or Plettenberg Bay for day sailing adventures and offshore sailing to St Francis Bay, Mossel Bay or Hout Bay, Cape Town for logging coastal passages.

Coaching by professional skippers we facilitate unforgettable sailing experiences.

Yachting Courses

You will learn basic sailing skills, form tying various knots, steering the vessel, handling & trimming sails and learning basic sailing skills.  Our introductory session prepares you to consider becoming a competent crew, day skipper or coastal skipper.
